The next meeting of our North London Sea of Faith Group will be at our
house, 61, Fordington Road, Highgate, London N6 4TH, on Saturday morning,
January 21st 2012. This will be our New Year lunch meeting and we hope will be a festive and more social event.
We will start with a magazine meeting at 11.00am so please bring something you would like to share with the group: a poem, reading, piece of music, picture or just some thoughts.
After the meeting we will have a shared lunch at around 1.00pm, so please also bring some food towards our lunch. We will provide wine and soft drinks.
If you cannot manage the whole time, do come for part of it.
I do hope you will be able to come.

As we will be away most of May, I think we will have a short break, and have our next meeting on Saturday 9th July, which will be a Saturday morning meeting followed by a shared lunch, hopefully in the garden. Following on from the conference, Kenan Malik, one of our speakers, has put his talk on his website. I thought it would be interesting if we could read this and use it as a basis for discussion on 9th July.
http://www.kenanmalik.com/lectures/moral_certainty.html
If you have any other readings or thoughts, related to the conference
subject, please also bring them, and we could combine discussion of Kenan's
talk with a magazine programme.
Please also bring a dish or contribution to lunch. We will provide drinks.
The meeting will be at our house, 61 Fordington Road, Highgate, London N6
4TH and will start at 11.00 am with coffee. We hope to have lunch at
about 1.00pm.
Best wishes,
Our next North London Sea of Faith meeting will be on Saturday 8th January at Janet's house in Highgate. It will be a magazine session starting at 11.00 am and followed by lunch. Please bring a contribution both for the meeting and for the lunch. At the meeting we will each share something significant to us---a poem, prose reading, piece of music or picture and discuss them. Lunch will be at about 1.00pm and will be a bring and share meal. We will provide drinks.

November Meeting Wednesday 17 November 2010

Our next North London Sea of Faith meeting will be on Wednesday 17th November 2010 at 8.00pm at Janet and John Seargeant's home in Highgate, London, N6 4TH.

Dinah Livingstone, the editor of Sofia, the SOF magazine, and member of our group, will be talking about her new book, Poetic Tales, and will introduce a discussion on some of the topics in it.

New Book from Dinah Livingstone

“Poetic Tales”

an essay in four chapters

If we regard God or gods and the whole supernatural realm as the rich product of the human imagination, what value can such 'poetic tales' still have for us, once we have discarded the supernatural? The surprising answer is as much as ever. Not only does everyone, atheist or otherwise, need some theology, without which so much of our history and culture remains baffling, but when taken and sifted with what Coleridge called poetic faith, those tales are found to contain treasures of wisdom.

This book offers a way into poetry even for the prosaic or merely puzzled, and a way into theology for atheists and all.
